This course provides students with the main concepts of optical wireless communications (OWC) and the background knowledge to develop a OWC system for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Topics covered in this course include OWC landscape overview, fundamental for visible light communications and for infrared communications, light sources, direct line of sight and diffuse transmission channel, receiver, system and subsystem performance, physical security and OWC applications. This course also teaches skills necessary for students to design an OWC system.
13-hour lecture and tutorials, 2-hour teamwork, and 3 hour assessment (group presentation)
